Inspiration
Every person has a story. These are stories of hope, resilience and transformation.
Education
Themba Maseko grew up in Alexandra township, where his single mother struggled to put food on the table. School was a luxury they could barely afford. In Grade 8, Themba was identified by Ceemel's education programme and received a full sponsorship covering school fees, uniforms, books and tutoring.
"I remember the day I got my first school shoes," Themba recalls. "I had never owned new shoes before. I polished them every day. They weren't just shoes - they were hope."
With dedicated support from Ceemel's tutors, Themba excelled academically. In 2023, he matriculated with distinctions in Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Today, he is studying Civil Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand - the first person in his family to attend university.
"Ceemel didn't just pay for my school," Themba says. "They believed in me when no one else did. Now I want to build bridges - real ones and metaphorical ones - for kids like me."

Women's Empowerment
Mary Nkosi fled an abusive marriage with nothing but her two children and the clothes on her back. She found temporary shelter through Ceemel's domestic violence support programme, where counsellors helped her begin to heal from years of trauma.
But Mary wanted more than survival - she wanted independence. She enrolled in Ceemel's skills development programme and discovered a talent for baking. With a small business grant of R5,000 from Ceemel and mentorship from volunteer business advisors, Mary opened a home-based bakery.
Two years later, Mary's Bakery employs three other women from the shelter programme and supplies bread to six local shops. She has moved her children into a safe home and is saving for her own storefront.
"I was broken when I came to Ceemel," Mary shares. "They didn't just give me money. They gave me back my confidence. Now I wake up every day excited to work."

Community Development
What was once an illegal dumping site in Mamelodi is now a thriving community garden feeding 50 families. The transformation began when Ceemel's community development team met with local residents who expressed a desire to grow their own food.
Ceemel provided seeds, tools, training in sustainable farming, and ongoing agricultural support. Community members contributed labour and land. Within six months, the first harvest yielded enough spinach, tomatoes, and maize to supplement family meals.
Today, the garden produces surplus vegetables that are sold at a local market, generating income for the gardeners. The project has inspired three neighbouring communities to start their own gardens.
"We don't just grow food here," says community leader Johannes Selepe. "We grow pride. We grow unity. We grow hope."

Disability Support
Sipho Dlamini was born with cerebral palsy and had never walked. For 28 years, he crawled on the ground or was carried by family members. He had never attended school and spent his days indoors, isolated from his community.
Ceemel's disability support programme identified Sipho during a community outreach visit. They assessed his needs, connected him with a physiotherapist, and provided a custom-fitted wheelchair.
The wheelchair changed everything. Sipho could finally move independently. He enrolled in adult literacy classes offered by Ceemal. Within a year, he was reading and writing. Today, Sipho volunteers as a peer counsellor for Ceemel's disability programme, visiting other families to offer support and share his story.
"For 28 years, I saw the world from the floor," Sipho says. "Now I see it from a new height. And I want to help others see it too."
